Christmas is the perfect time to decorate your home with festive accessories, shiny lights and colourful features. However, once your home is fully kitted out, why not spread the Christmas mood into the garden?
Lights, tinsel and holly can all be used in the garden to add to the festive feeling but you’re always going to be stuck with that dull, odd looking garden shed in the corner. By converting your shed into Santa’s grotto this holiday period, kids, neighbours and guests alike will be amazed by your creativity and capability. And more to the point, you can sit back in amazement of your very own Christmas grotto in your own back garden.

The first step to creating such a spectacular is to, of course, have a thorough clean out of all unused or unwanted content in the shed. Transport all equipment, tools and other items into a separate storage space to allow room for your accessories and decorations.
Either buy or transform an old, unwanted chair into Santa’s seat, using red, white and green paint to create the perfect effect. It is important to buy paint emulsion that is suitable for wooden surfaces to obtain the desired look. Tinsel, fairy lights and other accessories can be used to decorate the interior of the shed, just like you would do in your home. However, this is the one excuse for you to go all out and compose an over the top Christmas theme.
Make the interior cosy by using a portable heater, but remember to be careful when using it near flammable decorations. If you’re feeling extra creative, it may be worth painting a fireplace onto the facing wall of the shed. Alternatively, themed decorative wall sheets can be purchased which can give off a real Christmassy feel and atmosphere without the hard work.
Lastly, make sure all gifts are wrapped and presented underneath the Christmas tree to finish off the amazing grotto in your back yard.
The children won’t be the only ones overjoyed by your efforts this Christmas. Passers-by will also stop in awe at your wonderful creation. It is also a great way to draw attention to your well-presented, polished looking home.
