The balconies are small outdoor spaces with a little imagination can become an oasis in the middle of the city.
Often the biggest problem I have is the view balconies unwanted prying eyes, lack, or abundance of light and excessive wind.
All these problems can be solved with a little dedication.
Let’s start solving the problem of views. There are a lot of light foliage shrubs that are perfectly adapted to living in pots as long as they provide the appropriate media. You can place them as a screen, and create one or two points of interest within the balcony placing flower planters with bright colors. If you need to take intimacy to a room, such as a bedroom, we can use these same shrubs, but place them near the window to protect us from prying eyes but allow us to easily see out.
The lack or excess of light is often one of the most common problems.
The south facing balconies lack of sunshine needed for many plants to grow and bloom well, but there are others that are ideal for places such as azaleas, hydrangeas, and acanthus. These plants are in this sunny little or no guidance the ideal habitat to develop.
However, we must take into account other data. This approach is very windy, so if we want our plants to thrive we generate some kind of protection. Are commercially abundant natural and synthetic materials that allow us to develop these wind breaks very easily with the intervention of our imagination?
Space is another important factor. The more narrow than the balcony, but we strive to create the feeling of depth. This is achieved through the use of color and texture as design elements prevailing in these cases. The size of the plants also plays a role in the “creation” of space if we put the copies in the middle lower and higher ends.
Many are inclined to use to incorporate green vines on the walls of the balcony. We recommend that in the case of using them are planted in pots of 40 or 50 cm. depth to ensure proper development and that tutors on a specially built for growth and not on the wall because many species have very strong roots that can seriously damage and causing cracks and therefore leakage.
Finally we must consider the weight issue. It is always appropriate to consult with a professional when trying to mount a garden on a balcony to make sure not to exceed the capacity of the latter relative to the weight it can bear.
Overall we can say that we use containers and thin substrates for our plants (today there are plenty of models, materials and sizes on the market). To generate the substrate, we can choose lea (lighter) instead of stone to ensure good drainage at the bottom of the container, and lighter blends available in the market and best suited to the needs of our plants.
Once we’ve completed planting can incorporate sounds through the use of “witnesses of the Wind” or small waterfalls, light by adding lamps or lanterns, and if space permits some furniture. If the latter were very small, some cushions well suffice to enable us to accommodate large and finally enjoy the space created.
